Thank you everyone who came to our Year 1 Assembly at the end of last term and also for helping the children learn their lines at home. They have worked hard and were so excited to showcase what they have achieved.

Overview
Our new topic this term is 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!'. This will continue until the summer holidays with lots of lessons linked to this topic including Geography, Literacy and Art. After half term Year 1 will enjoy a trip to the seaside
In Maths, Year 1 are now progressing to numbers to 100. The class is continuing to learn through concrete resources and they all enjoy playing maths games. The resources we use include dice : d6, d10 and d20 as well as using part whole models, number lines, tens frames and basically anything we can count: cubes, conkers, counters, Numicom, Base 10, Unifix, fir cones etc.
We will also cover capacity, multiplication/division in 2s, 5s and 10s, fractions and geometry, money and time.
In Science we are learning about Spring and Summer. We will be closely observing seasonal changes whilst monitoring our sunflower and bean seedlings which we planted in containers in our playground. After half term we move on to Scientists and Inventors.
Geography will concentrate on identifying seasonal and daily patterns in the weather, together with basic geographical weather vocabulary.
In Art, Year 1 will be exploring bark and leaf rubbing using wax crayons which will be tied into our science lessons. After half term the children will then create seaside landscapes and experiment with water colours.
In DT the class will design and write detailed instructions.on how to make their own sandwiches. They will then go on to make and sample them!
In ICT the class will continue using Purple Mash and will learn about spreadsheets and technology we use in everyday life.
In RE the children will look at Religions and go onto their places of worship after half term.
PE will concentrate on multi-skills as Sports Day will soon be here, together with gymnastics and yoga.
