News from the Reception Class
What a busy term we have had in Reception. We have been reading 'Kipper's Toybox' and the children then discovered that our toybox had been nibbled just like Kipper's! They came up with some ideas about how to solve this problem, wrote letters to the mice and made 'lost' posters for the toy that had gone missing. We have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year with lots of discussion, painting, dancing and some food sampling. In Science, we have been exploring floating and sinking and the children worked very hard to construct their own boats. The children are becoming more confident to apply their phonics skills in writing and have found many purposes to practise writing in their play, particularly during role-play and writing messages to their families.
As well as these adult directed activities, there has been lots of child initiated learning where the children follow their interests and express their ideas and creativity, often collaborating with others. Throughout this time they are supported by adults who help them to apply their skills through play.
